Vanessa Boutefeu holds a Masters in Applied Linguistics from the University of Reading (1986) and a Modern Languages degree from the University of Bristol. She also has the University of Cambridge’s DTEFLA diploma in English Language Teaching. She is a teacher, teacher trainer/educator and a translator, she has worked for the past 17 years as a leitor at FCSH having previously worked for many years at the British Council. At FCSH she teaches Advanced English language courses (B2-C2) on two degree courses (LLC and Translation) and a Practical Translation course (Social Sciences and Humanities – Portuguese to English). She also taught the methodology seminar focusing on assessment and productive skills on the FCSH’s Masters in English Language Teaching for several years and has co-supervised 12 MA theses to date. She is now teaching the Assessment modules on the new Masters in ELT (FCSH/Universidade Aberta). She has worked with Portuguese teachers on many teacher training courses, was a consultant to Cambridge English Language Assessment for many years and is a consultant to IAVE. Her main research interests are assessment and evaluation, the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and developing writing and speaking skills, primarily at more advanced levels of English (B2 to C2). She has published several articles in these areas in teaching journals and magazines.
