Mark Wakefield

Mark J. R. Wakefield was born and raised in the City of Cork in the Republic of Ireland. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (Hons) from University College Cork. Complimenting this primary degree with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching English for Academic Purposes from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom he then went to obtain a Masters Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FSCH-Nova) (2012).
In 2018 he gained a Doctorate in Literary, Cultural and Interartistic Studies from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto (FLUP), specialising in English Literature and Culture with a particular focus on the work of Irish writer, John McGahern.

He has taught English for Academic Purposes courses at the University of East Anglia (United Kingdom), Universidade do Minho and has also taught English Language and Culture at Degree and Master’s level at Escola Superior de Educação do Porto. Between 2015 and 2019 he lectured at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra.

Currently Adjunct Professor of English at Universidade Portucalense/Oporto Global University, Mark recently authored an academic textbook Successful Writing in English: A Practical Guide (July, 2020) published by Areal Editores with whom he also works as scientific and linguistic consultant.
