Guilherme Silva Braga

Guilherme da Silva Braga holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Literature Studies from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and has completed a two-year post-doctoral program at Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), where he did research on theoretical and practical aspects of literary translation. Guilherme has also been active as a practicing literary translator since 2005: with over fifty published translations of works by several world-class authors from English, Norwegian and Swedish into Brazilian Portuguese, he has been an appointed literary translator in residence in Hungary, Ireland, Norway and Switzerland, and has offered postgraduate lectures and workshops on literary translation at PUC-RS (Brazil), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal). In 2016, he was nominated for the prestigious Prêmio Jabuti for best literary translation published in Brazil. His current research interests are centered on the application of German functionalist theories to literary translation and the creative processes involved in translating.
