Elena Galvão

Elena Zagar Galvão obtained her PhD in Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2015. The title of her thesis is Gesture in Simultaneous Interpreting from English into European Portuguese: An Exploratory Study. She has an MA in English Studies from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she was a Fulbright grantee and a Teaching Assistant. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Translation and Terminology from the University of Porto and a degree in translation from the Scuola Superiore di Lingue Moderne per Interpreti e Traduttori, University of Trieste, Italy. She teaches English language and general translation from Portuguese into English to undergraduates. She also teaches Scientific and Technical Translation (English, Portuguese and Italian), Information Technology for translators, and Introduction to Interpreting in FLUP’s Master’s in Translation and Language Services. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) and secretary of the Associação Portuguesa de Intérpretes de Conferência(APIC).
