Alexandra Lopes is a trained sociologist with a Ph.D. in Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology of FLUP – University of Porto. Alexandra has specialised in ageing Studies and is mainly concerned with inequality in later life, active and healthy ageing, ageing in place, and long-term care. She has also specialised in survey research and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis. Alexandra regularly collaborates with the WHO on its Healthy Ageing Training Programme. She also works as an appointed expert working for the European Commission on human rights and citizenship issues. She has been recently appointed as the leading evaluator of the Portuguese branch of the Social Observatory of Foundation la Caixa. Among her many research projects, she has coordinated the Portuguese team of SPRINT – Social Protection Innovative Investment in Long-Term Care, funded under Horizon 2020.
