Ariadne Gomes Guimarães graduated in 2008 at University of Brasília (UNB), in English Language and Literature, with focus on Literature. She is currently a MA student in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto. She has six years of experience as an English teacher and another seven years in non-related affairs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bruna Olivieri graduated in 2017 from the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR), Brazil, majoring in Portuguese and English. She has attended Yeats Summer School in Sligo, in 2015. She took part in a study group on the British novel in the 19th and 20th century, from 2014 to 2016. She completed a course on traditional animation in 2016. Currently, she’s a graduate student in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto. Her main interests are Irish folklore, comic books and animation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Letícia Onofre graduated in Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (UFG) in 2008. She taught English and Portuguese during and after her studies. She has been working as an English Teacher since 2007. She worked as an Assistant Professor in the Arts Faculty at Uniseb Estácio. She managed projects with students at Galois School to promote English Language and Foreign Culture (art, music, films, international food and storytelling) in collaboration with embassies in Brazil. Her research interests are English Language and Culture around the world, Food Studies (FoodWays), films and religion. She decided to pursue a Masters in Anglo-American Studies to improve her knowledge and help beginner teachers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Luisa Lamounier is a graduate student in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto. She graduated in 2015 from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) with a BA in Literary Studies, having researched memory, trauma and metafiction in war literature. She’s a former member of the Center for the Study of War and Literature (NEGUE). She has also worked as a teacher since 2014.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Manuel Sousa Oliveira is an undergraduate student in Applied Languages at the University of Porto and will soon be pursuing his studies in the field of Anglo-American Studies. He has also recently completed a traineeship at CETAPS within the project ALIMENTOPIA – Utopian Foodways. His particular research interests include American Literature, Utopian Studies and Queer Theory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Maria de Araújo has a Bachelor of Arts in Languages, Literatures and Cultures from University of Porto. She is currently pursuing a MA in Anglo-American Studies at the same institution. She is interested in the modernist articulation of mental and urbanscape wanderings and of biblical, classical and native myth. Bewitched by the woolf’s howl.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miguel Ohnesorge is a History and Philosophy student at Kassel University and the University of Porto. He was working as a student assistant at the Chair of Global History and the Institute of Philosophy in Kassel. His research focusses on the colonial history of South Asia, the history and philosophy of science, and the global history of political ideas. He is a fellow of the German scholarship foundation and contributor to the Berlin Global Histories Journal and the “History of Knowledge” blog of the German Historical Institute Washington.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rita Costa Marinho is a graduate student attending a MA in Anglo-American studies at the Faculty of Arts, in University of Porto. She studied Cinema before getting her BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures, with a major in English, from the same institution. She has attended University College Dublin as an Erasmus student, and has also been an English monitor at the Universidade Júnior project, in University of Porto. Her main areas of interest are Irish Studies, Queer theory and Gender studies, 19th and 20th Century English and American Literature and Culture, Pop Culture, Cinema and Photography.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tânia Almeida is a graduate student in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto. She holds a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures with a major in English from the same institution. She has a wide range of interests within literature and the visual arts.

My name is Beatriz de Almeida Santos, I’m 22 years old and I live in Lisbon, Portugal. I hold a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures from FCSH – Universidade Nova de Lisboa and I am currently enrolled in an MA in Anglo-American Studies in the same institution. My main interests within English and American Literary and Cultural Studies are Fantasy, Science-Fiction, Medieval Literature and Post-Colonial Studies.

 

Hello! My name is Frederico and I am a student of Law and of Translation (German and French), both at BA level. Although I have worked as a research assistant in published papers on Economics, a part of me has always wanted to pursue an academic career immediately connected to my studies, so I joined JRAAS to materialise some of those aspirations. My fields of interest range from Chinese History to the Southern Gothic.

 

Hi! My name is Mariana, I am 22 years old and I live in Santarém. In 2016, I finished my B.A. in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (English and Portuguese Studies). I am currently working on my dissertation for my Master’s Degree in English and North-American Studies, which focuses on Robert Louis Stevenson’s South Seas fiction and its relation to nineteenth century colonial discourse. I take a special interest in Women’s Studies, Postcolonial theory and Gothic fiction of the Victorian Era. In addition to Literature, I am particularly passionate about Cinema.

 

My name is Jéssica Marques Fortunato, I am twenty-two years old and I live in Vila Franca de Xira. I am currently enrolled in the MA in Modern Literatures and Cultures (Anglo-American Studies) at FCSH-UNL, where I have previously completed a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (Anglo-American Studies). My main areas of interest are: Postmodernism, Gender Studies, Speculative Fiction, Video Games, Cinema and Graphic Novels.

 

Hello! My name is João Ferreira and I am a twenty-two year old student. In 2016, I completed a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (English and Spanish studies) at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Nova University of Lisbon. Currently, I am enrolled in the MA of Teaching English and Spanish (3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico and Ensino Secundário) at the same institution. My main fields of interest are foreign language teaching (notably intercultural education and the literary text in the ELT classroom) and women’s studies.

 

Hi! My name is Mário Bruno Cruz, I am 53 years old and I live in Lisboa, Portugal. I am currently enrolled in a MA in Translation at FCSH and I had previously completed a BA in Architecture. Moreover, I am working at CETAPS as a junior researcher. My interests are Translation, Buddhism, Architecture, Art and Literature.

 

Hello! My name is Rui Mateus, I am 23 years old and I live in Castelo Branco. I have a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures in the field of English and Portuguese Studies from Nova University of Lisbon. I am currently enrolled in the MA in English and North American studies at the same university. My dissertation is on fantasy literature, which is my main area of interest. I am also interested in science-fiction and classical and ancient mythologies.

 

My name is Sérgio Pelado. I am 22 years old and I am from Lisbon, Portugal. I am currently enrolled in the BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (English and German Studies) in Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH). My main fields of interest are classic literature, sci-fi and fantasy fiction, cinema, music, genetics and biology.

Hi! My name is Teresa and I completed my BA (Languages, Literatures and Cultures – English and Spanish Studies) in 2012 and my MA (Languages, Literatures and Cultures – English and North-American Studies) in 2014, with a dissertation entitled Digital Empires: From Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Conflicts to Strategy Video Games, at Nova University of Lisbon, where I am currently enrolled in the same field of studies (Languages, Literatures and Cultures – Cultural Studies) as a PhD student. My publications and research interests centre upon Anglo-Portuguese Studies, English Literature and Culture, Neo-Victorianism, Transmedial Worlds and Game Studies. I am particularly interested in the ways literature and video games interact with one another.

Hi, there! I am Alice and I am currently taking the masters in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto’s Faculty of Arts. I am also a member of the Digital Lab and my main research interests are in the fields of African-American Literature, Gender Studies, Utopian Studies and Digital Humanities.

 

Hello! My name is Jaqueline Pierazzo and I am 28 years old. I am from Aramina, Brazil, but I have been living in Portugal for the past four years. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Campinas (Brazil) in 2011 and I have an MA in Anglo-American Studies with a dissertation entitled Between Terror and Sublime: The Female Characters in “Berenice”, “Morella” and “Ligeia. I am currently a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. My main interests are Edgar Allan Poe’s works, Gothic and Terror Literature, and Digital Humanities. My PhD thesis’s main focus is the creation of a (digital) cartography of Edgar Allan Poe’s terror. I was awarded a Grant by Associação Luso-Britânica (ALB) to work as a Junior Researcher in Anglo-American Studies at CETAPS.

 

Hi! My name is Jéssica Moreira and I’m a 22 years-old Master Student in Anglo-American Studies at University of Porto’s  Faculty of Arts. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy by the same institution and am currently writing my dissertation on the role of art and the spaces of art in the utopian genre, also concerning the relation between memory and history both in literature and contemporary spaces of art. I am currently working as a Junior Researcher in Anglo-American Studies at CETAPS (Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies) under a traineeship endorsed by ALB (Associação Luso-Britânica). My areas of interest include utopian and dystopian studies, spatial studies, American literature, subcultural studies, aesthetics, literary theory and cinema.

 

Hey! My name is João Cachada and I’m a 22 years-old Masters Student at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Arts. I have a BA in Philosophy and am writing my dissertation on American literature and culture, entitled Escaping The Narrative: The Postmodern Myth of America. My main area of research at the moment is critique of postmodernism and poststructuralism, with focus on the American context.

 

Hello! My name is João Santos and I am a PhD student from the faculty of arts from the University of Porto. I wrote my Master’s Dissertation on Harry Potter (magic, religion and science) and I am studying the series on a deeper level for my PhD. My more general interests are 20th and 21st century English culture and literature with a main focus on Fantasy Literature being that Harry Potter is my main research object. I am now studying Harry Potter characters, spaces and food and the relationships between them. Some of my other interests are Food Studies, Digital Humanities and Spatiality Studies.

 

Hello, everyone! My name is Tânia and I am from Viana do Castelo. I hold a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures (English) and I am enrolled in the MA degree in Anglo-American Studies. I was awarded a grand by ALB (Associação Luso-Britânica) to work as a Junior Researched at CETAPS. My main areas of interest are Young Adult Fiction, Dystopian Studies, the Victorian Era and 20th and 21stCentury American Literature and Culture.

 

My name is Viviane Fontoura. I am Brazilian and a student at DELCI (Department of Literary, Cultural and Interartistic Studies) at FLUP (Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Communication from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, specialization degrees in Applied Linguistics and English Literature from the Frassinetti Faculty of Recife, and a MA in English Literature from the University of Westminster, UK. My dissertation was on trauma, memory and identity in contemporary Northern Irish literature.

For my doctorate, I am still investigating literature produced in Northern Ireland. This time, however, my research is focused on the poetry of Ciáran Carson and Sinéad Morrissey, especially the representation of the city of Belfast in their works. My aim is to relate aspects of spatiality, memory and national identity and gender, and how the two writers’ literary corpus relate to each other.

My literary interests are very wide, but I have a special place in my heart for William Shakespeare, the romantic poetry of Keats, Byron and Shelley, and women’s literature as a whole (my favourite writers are Emily Brontë, Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath and Clarice Lispector).

At the moment, I’m preparing my final dissertation and working at CETAPS Porto under a traineeship awarded by ALB (Associação Luso-Britânica). Hi! My name is Ana Isabel, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Porto. I hold a BA in Portuguese and English/American Languages, Literatures and Cultures and I am currently finishing my MA Degree in English and American Literature and Culture. My MA Dissertation is on Paramount Male Characters in James Joyce’s “The Dead” and Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian”.I am currently working at CETAPS (Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies) under a traineeship endorsed by ALB (Associação Luso-Britânica). During our year as JRAAS Trainees, we are expected to contribute to research and outreach activities promoted by CETAPS, as well as by the Anglo-American Studies Department at FLUP.
