The group thinks it advisable to partly change their approach and, without totally doing way with their interest in Anglo-Portuguese ideological influences, to predominantly focus on British political thought and practice during the 19th and 20th centuries, thus widening the scope of their research and including British international relations during the same period.
-
If the group eventually achieve a fair increase in the number of researchers, new projects may, in the future, be devised and suggested for application in other areas of British Culture and History, such as British Philosophy, Scientific Thought, Aesthetic Thought and the Media. This reflects a growing interest in the interdisciplinary approach and, whenever possible, to build 'bridges' between aspects of different branches of knowledge.

Shortly after the formation of the British Culture and History Project, the members of the working group decided to create a line of action specifically devoted to British Political Thought and Practice, covering the whole of the 19th and 20th centuries and including British International relations during the same period. An interdisciplinary approach was adopted, bridging, where possible, different branches of knowledge which have something in common with the main subject, such as Scientific Thought, Art and the Media.
-
Several events have been organised within the scope of this line of action, the more far-reaching being a doctoral seminar on the theme of "Science, Thought and Culture" and a series of lectures on "British Political Thought ", both of which took place in the second semester of 2008/9.
-
The series included the following public lectures : "A Política Externa Britânica na Segunda Metade do Século XX: Panorâmica Geral", by Filipe Furtado; Os 'Democratas de Runnymede Meadows': a Importância da Magna Carta no Discurso Político sobre a Memória Histórica Inglesa", by Manuel Canaveira; "Robert Cunninghame Graham: From Radical Socialism to the Scottish National Party", by David Evans; "O Comunismo Britânico na Década de Trinta", by António Lopes; "O Egipto e a Crise do Suez", by Filipe Furtado; "Os Historiadores Britânicos e a Política colonial do Estado Novo", by Gabriela Gândara Terenas; and "Repercussões do Pensamento Político Britânico no Cinema", by Maria do Rosário Lupi Bello.
