The team was created in 2004 after the 5th International Conference of the Utopian Studies Society/Europe (Porto). The event allowed for the gathering, mapping, and consolidation of Portuguese academics working in the field of Utopian Studies. Researchers from four Portuguese universities - Porto, Nova de Lisboa, Coimbra and Aveiro - make part of the project Mapping Dreams: British and North American Utopianism. From the beginning, the team networked with foreign research centres and academics affiliated to the universities of Bologna (Italy) and Limerick (Ireland). Further to this it developed collaborative work with the universities of Carlos III (Madrid), Lublin (Poland), Cyprus, Campinas (Brazil) and Federal de Alagoas (Brazil). The team has been working collaboratively on the following research areas: 1 - Minority and Identity Collaborative work has relied on research seminars where the team members discuss papers before their presentation. The team has worked as well as on the edition of Spaces of Utopia: An Electronic Journal, on the organization of national and international conferences, and on the joint promotion of activities with other research projects hosted by CETAPS. Junior researchers have also been involved in collaborative work by participating in several activities promoted by the team thus benefiting from the advice of all its members. The team has also invested in presenting at international conferences all over the world. The results achieved translated as publications in peer-review journals such as Utopian Studies, Morus, Utopolis, Journal of the Seneca University, Cahiers Victoriens et Edouardiens, Études Britanniques Contemporaines, Femspec, Utopia and Utopianism and volumes published in English with international distribution (Cambridge University Press, U.Porto Editorial, Praeger Publishers). Several outreach activities have been promoted by the team members such as I Jornada HumAnStech (in collaboration with academics and junior researchers of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto). They have also collaborated on 18th edition of Curtas de Vila do Conde film festival (2010). Young researchers with a special interest in Utopia and Film Studies got actively involved in the group's activities. The team created a PhD programme in Utopian Studies - the first doctoral programme in this field of studies to be offered in the world. It will start in 2011/2012 at the University of Porto.
